Narrandera, located in the heart of the Riverina on the junction of the Newell and Sturt Highways, is a town of around 5000 people. With its charming streets lined with beautiful white cedar, claret ash and London plane trees, and its gracious old homes, it has been declared an urban conservation area by the National Trust. The Murrumbidgee River and Lake Talbot make Narrandera a centre for water sports, and provide habitat for an abundance of wildlife, including a thriving koala colony. The district is devoted to cereal crops, canola, wool, citrus fruit, wine grapes, lambs and cattle.
Located on the Kidman Way between Griffith and Jerilderie, Coleambally was established to service the Coleambally Irrigation Area, and is now a thriving centre supporting over 90 businesses. The town is well-known for its beautiful gardens: bird life abounds, and kangaroos are often seen grazing on the town ovals and school playgrounds. The Lions Park boasts a huge Bucyrus dragline excavator used in the construction of the irrigation scheme. The main farming activity is rice growing, with rice fields dominating the landscape.
